In ancient African (Khemetic) wisdom, the hieroglyph Sema Tawī—pronounced So-MAH—represented unity. It is visualized as the windpipe and lungs bound at the center, flanked by the left and right sides of the body.
Evoking the integration of opposites, the sacred role of breath, and the wholeness of the living body, the SMA is an apt logo for Songa Somatics, honoring a lineage that knew the soma long before the Greeks named it so.
Somatics is the embodied practice of reclaiming that wholeness. It invites us to move from the inside out, breathing into what’s been held, listening to what longs to emerge, and aligning our actions with what matters most.
